Dr. David Gritz, MD, is a Staff Physician in the Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Gritz was a Professor of Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins University Wilmer Eye Institute. Among other positions, he has also served as Chief of Anterior Segment at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Gritz received his medical degree as part of the six year combined BA/MD program at the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine, Kansas City, USA. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, San Antonio. Additionally, he completed a combined Cornea and Uveitis Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Gritz's research involves the epidemiology of corneal and inflammatory eye diseases, as well as clinical trials, working in the USA and internationally.
He has received numerous awards for his clinical and research achievements, as well as his commitment to teaching. His work on the epidemiology of uveitis includes the largest population-based study to date in the medical literature. He led one of the first large, long-term clinical trials in India, examining the potential effect of antioxidant vitamins in prevention of cataract, in collaboration with the Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Dr. Gritz resides in Abu Dhabi with his wife and rescue dog. He enjoys cooking and eating good food, swimming and going to the beach, being in nature and playing ukulele.
