Dr. Essam Fouad Elsayed

Dr. Essam Fouad Elsayed, MD, is a Consultant Physician in the Medical Subspecialties Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

Prior to joining Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, Dr. Elsayed was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and Staff Nephrologist at Dallas VA Medical Center, where he was leading the Peritoneal and Home Dialysis Service. He is American Board certified in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology.

He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology and is the author of landmark papers. He has conducted research on the link between cardiovascular disease and obesity on the kidneys, which was sponsored by the National Institute of Health to study clinical research at Tufts University in Boston. Recently, his research in phosphate toxicity was featured in national and international media. Dr. Elsayed has been invited to be the keynote speaker at many conferences, universities and hospitals throughout the US and internationally.

Dr. Elsayed graduated with his Medical Degree from Alexandria University School of Medicine where he also received his medical training. He moved to the US in 1996 and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and was named The Intern of the Year and received The Resident Educator award. After concluding his residency, he accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Assistant Chief of Hospital Medicine, where he helped expand the division and develop clinical guidelines. Dr. Elsayed also hold a Master's of Science Degree in Clinical Research from the Sackler School of Biomedical Science at Tufts University.
