Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi was one of the hospitals recognized for its contribution to the nationwide battle against cancer in the Department of Health’s recent closing ceremony for its cancer awareness campaign.
The hospital received an award for being a strategic partner in the campaign to achieve the highest coverage of early detection cancer screening during the 2018-2019 campaign. It was one of several healthcare providers in the emirate to be recognized. In particular, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi achieved significant success with initiatives to encourage colorectal, cervical, and lung cancer screenings, among others.
Dr. Ali Wahla, Consultant Pulmonologist from the Respiratory Institute, and Dr. Muneezeh Liaqat, Consultant Pathologist from the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute, were recognized for their individual efforts in diagnosing, treating, and preventing cancer, and as team members working to review the standard and specifications for the early detection of lung cancer.
“Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi offers a full suite of cancer services and deploys advanced screening technology that can diagnose cancer early and improve the prognosis and treatment options for patients. We are very proud to receive this recognition as a strategic partner of the Department of Health, which recognizes the commitment and innovation that our caregivers bring to the national effort to beat cancer,” said Dr. Jorge Guzman, Chief of Staff, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
“Early detection is crucial in the management of cancer, and I hope this campaign has encouraged more people to come in for a screening. We continue to increase access to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi services, so that more people on a full range of insurance packages can come here and receive a comprehensive check-up,” he added.
As part of the broader efforts to tackle cancer, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi broke ground on a 17,000 square meter cancer treatment center in April this year.
The center is modelled upon Cleveland Clinic Ohio’s Taussig Cancer Centre, one of the leading spaces in the US for cancer care. It will offer comprehensive, personalized care at a single location, adding radiation therapy facilities and uplifting treatment spaces to the hospital’s current offering.
The Department of Health’s closing ceremony of the cancer awareness campaign took place in Abu Dhabi on September 30.
