Junior Caregiver Program offers high school students the chance to intern at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi

40 teens get first-hand experience of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, administration

Forty high school students from across the UAE have become the first to take part in a unique internship program at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi designed to develop the future of the UAE’s healthcare sector.

A total of 35 UAE national students and five expatriates from public and private schools in the UAE today became the first to take part in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s prestigious Junior Caregiver Program, during which they will gain first-hand experience about working in the healthcare industry.

The two-week program will provide students with the opportunity to work as interns across 13 hospital departments including Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Administration, rotating throughout the facility to discover the aspects of caregiving which most interest them.

HE Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of school operations at ADEC and other senior ADEC officials welcomed the students to the program on Sunday at an inauguration ceremony held at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.

“The sight of so many promising young people who have chosen to embark upon our first Junior Caregiver program fills me with optimism for the future of the UAE healthcare sector,” Mr Al Dhaheri said. 

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Chief Human Capital Officer, Yaser Obaid, said: “Increasing the number of UAE nationals seeking careers in healthcare will contribute significantly to the long-term sustainability of this industry and overall health in the Emirates. By creating internship programs like this one, the hospital encourages and educates young UAE nationals and expatriates about opportunities to become the world-class physicians, pharmacists, nurses and administrators who will help run it in the future.”
