Diagnosis & Treatment
SHARE
During the initial examination, a comprehensive medical history is completed by a Dentistry Program nurse. The patient then has a full series of dental X-rays taken by the dental assistant. The dentist examines the images for:
-
Cavities (also known as caries)
-
Periodontal problems (problems relating to gum tissue and oral hygiene)
-
Dental infections
-
Broken or missing teeth
-
Problems with the bite or malocclusion (how upper and lower teeth come together).
After examining the patient, the dentist, nurse, and dental assistant collaborate to discuss the patient’s specific dental needs to determine the best, personalized course of treatment.
In addition, the Dentistry Program offers dental cleaning and tooth whitening, performed by a certified dental hygienist. The hygienist also works with patients to advise them on optimal oral hygiene habits.
