Diagnosing Female Urological Concerns
At Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Female Urology Program, each of our patients are assessed through a medical history discussion, physical examination and additional tests to determine the cause and type of urological issue.
To diagnose problems related to incontinence, an in-depth evaluation is often sufficient. Understanding that incontinence is a symptom and not a disease is important and identifying the underlying cause or causes is often complex and requires an evaluation before treatment begins.
Symptoms of incontinence can include:
- A continuous dripping or small or large amounts of leakage.
- Leaking when you jump, run, laugh, cough or sneeze.
- An urge to go but being unable to make it to the bathroom in time.
- Waking frequently at night to use the toilet.
Incontinence can be caused by many different short-term conditions, such as urinary tract infections, medication, pregnancy, or long-term conditions like pelvic floors disorders, diabetes or stroke. Age is the biggest risk factor for incontinence.
