Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Rehabilitation Department offer a Physical Therapy Internship Program that is designed to provide the newly graduated PT with the work experience and training required to obtain a Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DOH) license.
The program is designed to ensure that the PT has the skills required to be a practicing physiotherapist in the Emirate. We offer a range of clinical experiences, with a dedicated Clinical Instructor who will mentor you with your own learning plan to acquire the clinical reasoning and hands on skills required to practice within the emirate.
How long is the program?
The Physical Therapy Internship is a 6-month Program, depending on what the DOH requires for the individual.
You will spend 3 months in the acute care setting followed by 3 months in the ambulatory setting.
What are the program rotations?
Our rotations are in the following areas:
Inpatient:
- Intensive care cardiac surgery
- Intensive care neurology
- Acute neurology
- Acute Medical and oncology
- Acute cardiology
- Acute vascular and pulmonology.
Outpatient:
- Pelvic floor and women’s health
- Neurological outpatients including stroke and Parkinson’s
- Musculoskeletal outpatients
- Cardiac rehabilitation
Rotations are designed to build clinical reasoning, case exposure, professionalism, hands on therapy skills and movement and handling techniques. We offer comprehensive learning opportunities that start with direct supervision and build the learner towards independence. The rotations provide plenty of feedback so that learners can feed forward their learnings into practice.
What are the program requirements?
Summative and formative assessments are provided. To qualify to apply you will need to be a current visa holder and to have graduated from a recognized physiotherapy program within the UAE. You will need to have had strong feedback from previous clinical placements.
